It's good to remind ourselves of winteres gone by. We were much more ready for the very cold snaps in those days but not so well equipped to deal with it.
This was before we had antifreeze in diesel fuel and it tended to "ice" up and lorries would break down with iced up fuel. Anti-lock brakes weren't available and brakes and tyres were not of the same quality.
In 1978 the temperature actually dropped one day to -24 degress in Lanark. it was regualary below -10 degrees and we had a real job to keep things going. Let's hope it doesn't get that cold.
