| | "Taken in the mid to late 1920s we believe this is the only surviving old photograph of the Crossburn end of Peebles. It was as late as 1991 when we de-commissined the last of the petrol tanks which would be operating at the time of this photograph.
It is amazing how things around us change and it seems at an ever increasing rate.
March 2005 and our retired senior mechanic Bert Mathieson died. Bert's father 'Abby' Mathieson was an original partner at Crossburn Garage. Bert had retired in 1996.
The garage name ""Greenside Motor Company"" which we bought in 1976 originated from the garage at Greenside in Peebles - now part of the Cooperative store - and in the 1950s the two garages were joined at Crossburn Garage." |
